It isn't gone. It's been quietly trained out of them by years of classrooms that reward correct answers far more than interesting questions. Building a culture of curiosity means deliberately reversing that pattern — not just in individual lessons, but across an entire school.
Why Curiosity Fades
Curiosity thrives on safety and novelty. It shrinks under pressure and repetition. A few common classroom patterns quietly discourage it without anyone intending to:
